Essential Cleaning Supplies for Your Pet

As a pet owner, we are sure that your pet is the most beautiful and wonderful canine on Earth – or kitty, if you have a cat. We are sure they are but, let’s be honest here: Just like us humans, animals can get a little dirty from time to time. OK, maybe more than just a “little.” It includes those times when your beloved pup has been rolling around in mud or running through something that would make your grandmother faint. Our pets can’t help it; they love being outside exploring nature’s wonders; however, they should still be clean for many reasons. If you do not provide a proper bath for them after a mess-making event, the following could happen:

  1. The dirt will remain stuck in there and lead to unmanageable and smelly fur.
  2. Depending on your dog’s coat type, you will need to invest in a good supply of pet shampoo and possibly other cleaning supplies.
  3. Depending on the weather outside, you may not be able to bathe them without risking their health because it is too cold or hot.
  4. Your dog will begin associating baths with unpleasant events, making them more difficult to bathe in the future.

Here is the list of the essential cleaning supplies for your pet;

Conditioning Rinse

Conditioning rinses are great at keeping your dog’s or cat’s fur smooth and shiny. However, if their coat is already in that state, it may be best to skip out buying one. We have read mixed reviews about whether or not this helps remove dirt and oil, which means you will have to weigh the costs and benefits of buying one.

Dog leash

You wouldn’t bathe a baby without putting them in a bath first, so this should be a no-brainer. Make sure you have a leash ready to go before you bring your wet dog outside!

Towels/washcloths

Keep some on hand for drying off your pet and cleaning up any messes they make during the process. We recommend buying different towels like personalized bath towels for pets.

Rubber gloves

It may seem silly, but rubber gloves make the whole bathing process 100x pleasant. You will do your best to wiggle away from you when you are doing anything with your head, so having gloves on will help give them that extra grip.

Brush/Comb

You will have tons of loose hair flying around after the bath, so it is best to have a good brush ready. Make sure to pick one out that isn’t too harsh for your pup because they are not used to being handled this way.

Ear cleaner

We all know how dirty our dogs’ and cat’s ears can get, which is why we recommend cleaning them with some ear cleaner to keep them healthy. We have read that some dogs don’t enjoy this process, so it may be best to skip out on using it if they’re spooked easily by humans touching their ears.

Nail trimmers

Having a pet means going through many nail clippers each year, so we recommend buying an extra pair or two to have on hand for later.  If your pup is used to being handled, then this shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but if not, it might be best to have someone help you out.

Wipes

These are optional, but using wipes is a great alternative if you don’t feel like lathering up your pup with water. Plus, they are fun to use. Many brands are available that each has different smells and textures, so try some out during your next trip to the pet store.

Flea drops/comb

Some vets may suggest giving your pup a flea treatment after their bath, but we believe these products can be harmful if applied too frequently. Therefore, we recommend having a flea comb on hand for dead insects instead of using extra chemicals on your dog’s coat.

Dog shampoo brush/combs

All know how hard it is to brush out human hair after a shower so imagine how difficult it would be to brush your pup’s long fur. These special brushes and combs will help you get through all that extra fluff without giving your pup a dreaded bath.

Clippers

If your dog has long legs, tails, or ears, then we recommend getting some clippers for the trimming process. Clippers are much easier to use than scissors since they cut in an even motion instead of manually moving each leg/tail/ear with a scissor.

Wrapping Up!

It is essential to provide good living conditions for your pet to keep them healthy. In addition to the items necessary for survival, many cleaning supplies can be used daily for your pet’s overall pet health. While some products may seem unnecessary or frivolous, they will keep your belongings from becoming soiled by accident and protect your pets from illness due to germs and bacteria.

Here in this article, we have mentioned some essential cleaning supplies to keep away your pets from illness and bacterias.
