We all know that tigers are the biggest member of cat family and regarded as one of the most powerful of all living cats in the world. But actually there are various few information that remains unknown to us. From ancient period in we have seen that humans are very much fascinated towards tigers and one of the most favorite animals of humans. Tigers normally live in grasslands where it makes easier for them to hunt various animals for their food. The places where foods are available easily, tigers are most agile in those areas. Even you will see most of the time; tigers are bathing in ponds, lakes and rivers. Actually tigers are very good swimmers in the cat family as a whole along with jaguars. Tigers are mostly known to hunt alone and mainly prefer hunting herbivores such as deers, buffalos and pigs. But as they become old their power slowly decreases and they start taking easier prey such as humans and cattle.

Tiger is an endangered species, and killed in a huge number by humans. Once upon a time, tiger hunting was a very popular sport and even trophies were awarded to the hunters. This led to the killing of several thousands of tigers in the wildlife. But later this practice was declared illegal and stopped. Actually humans are the tiger’s true predator and now they are often poached illegally for their high costly furs. The bones and various other parts of the tiger’s body are used in Chinese medicine for various ranges of uses like pain killers to aphrodisiacs. As a result of all these, tiger population all around the world has now decreased in a great amount. But apart from these, tigers also face a great problem due to the loss of natural habitat. They face a loss of prey like deers, wild cattle etc.

Normally tigers hunt at night because of their powerful vision and normally lions and tigers are said almost anatomically same and also can be interbred. Normally females give birth to 2 or 3 cubs at a time and raise them for two years. It takes about two years to train an infant tiger. Tigers are normally very poor climbers and very often seen to climb trees only in case of emergencies.

Three important species of tiger is fully extinct Balinese, Javan and Caspian and the south china tiger is almost in a condition of extinction. At present the Bengal tiger is the most populous tiger in the world amounting a population of about 4000 and it is followed by Indochinese Tiger, Sumatran Tiger and the Siberian Tiger respectively. Still various conservation actions have been taken by various countries and great effort is being made to save this tigers, one of the most amazing creatures of this world.
