If you thought that cats were from Mars and dogs from Venus (just like men and women), well why don’t you hold on that thought for the next 20 minutes? There have been myths circling around the statement that cats and dogs can never be friends. In fact, as kids, didn’t we see tons of cartoons that showed the fights and races between these two animals? Remember, Tom and Jerry? How the bulldog used to bully poor Tom, and how Tom used to run away from merely the sight?
But, what about people like us – who love cats and dogs both and would love to tame both of them as pets? Well, I know, I can feel your temptation. But, hey! Wait! Who said you cannot have both? That’s right – if you have been falling trap to the myth, it’s time to bust the truth, my friend. So, ignore all those who say having cats and dogs will create a mess. No way! Because we have the best solution here – Get them indulged in some awesome fun games – indoor or outdoor and they will love each other’s company and you are sorted. *Wink*. Thank us later, and start taking notes of these games.
*Recommendation: All games may not work out for all breeds of dogs and cats. You can, however, try all of them, and continue with the ones that work out the best for your pets.*
Quick Cat And Dog Games To Maintain A Healthy Relation
Winning The Race
This is the basic “Ready, get set and go” game. Just explain the rules to your pets (you may think they will not understand, but they are smarter than you think). Put a red line as a finish line to let them know till where they need to run. Blow the buzzer and see how they run towards the finish line. Cats have their own solitary style of living and dogs will love to live in your arms. But both of them are very popular as pets and let us love both. Right?
Puzzle Them Around To Come Out Together
You will need some cardboard made stuff and the favorite toys of your pets. Convert your garden into a puzzle. You can convert this into a treasure hunt, where your pet will win on the basis who brings out the maximum toys. Or, create a puzzle – where the pet has to see the cut out on the ground and find where the toy is.
The Cliché “Go Fetch”
Don’t we all love to play this game with our dogs and cats? This is the most traditional game to play with your cats and dogs to maintain a healthy relationship. You can come up with some innovations here – you can have boomerangs and see the wonder of your pet when they see the stuff coming back on its own.
Peek – A – Boo
The most famous outdoor game – hide and seek. In this, why not let your cat find you and the dog, and keep reversing turns. If you have kids at home, you can start involving them and you will be surprised to see the energy everybody brings out. As a matter of fact, you will see that even if you are not around your kids, dog and cat are enough a number to play this super fun game.
Follow The Leader
This game will be fun when you have number of players. Appoint one person as the leader and then you will form a line behind him/her. Now, all you have to do is ‘follow the leader’. Wherever the leader goes, follow. Whatever the leader does, imitate. This is such an addictive game that your pets are going to love it.
Boxing
Not literally. You do not need gloves and all here. This is going to be like a friendly tug of war, without any ropes or boxing arenas. Just play over with a ball and have friendly fights. Let your pets box over each other, then massage each other by themselves. You can either be a part of it or just sit back and enjoy. Many times you have heard of something like cat and dog fighting. Here we have collected some pictures of cats on top of dogs and that also with a lot of fun and change your thoughts.
Roll The Ball
More like cricket for the layman, but for your dogs and cats, just rolling the ball. You can use sponge balls to ensure that nobody is getting hurt. You will stand in a circle and you will roll the ball to the nearest animal. That animal will then roll it to the third person and then back to you.
The Massage Game
You can play this in turns. Let your cat give a message to the dog, and then in return, your dog will carry your dog all around the garden. What will you do? You will cuddle them both. Then, repeat or switch places. However, while switching be a little careful as cats are slightly more delicate than dogs and they may not be able to hump objects.
Games Using Technology
If you have an iPad dedicated to your pets, there are tons of free games. My Favorite one is the target game – your dog and cat will have to take turns and hit exactly when the red light flashes on the screen. One point each for the right hit, and no scores for hitting after or before the red light. See the joy on the face of your pets when they hit right.
Now that you have taken notes, start bringing on the things you will need to get started with these games. Try to make time for at least one such game every day. This will not only help you to have a healthy relationship between your dog and cat, but it will also benefit you by relieving your stress and having a great time spent with your loved ones – your pets are with you, you are their only family, so take time out for them!
