- Chaffinch: These are the ones most generally seen in English gardens among the finch family, They are characterized by a triangular beak; the male is really attractive with grey cap and red chest which starts from above the eye and goes till the part between the legs. Their back is black, chestnut and white. Females chaffinches tend to have a brown-grey cap and chest. But the markings on their back tends to be similar to those of the males.
